Getting Started

Get a LPC analysis cluster computing account & FNAL ID/accounts at Fermilab

Getting new accounts, renewal accounts, and onsite access may take up to 6 weeks!
Choose CMS AT FERMILAB, and put ONLY Dee Hahn as your Fermilab point of contact. Requests may be made for up to a year. A valid FNAL badge (including badging appointment if a new one is needed) is required to access site.

Choose one:

Note: You do not have an EOS T3_US_FNALLPC SE area by default and can associate your CMS grid certificate with your FNAL account by following the Using EOS at the LPC page for instructions.

Register Computer for the Fermilab Network

This is needed if you will be onsite at Fermilab, and requires Fermilab SSO. Fermilab Single-Sign on can be done with Kerberos or Services password.

To register your computer for the FNAL onsite network, follow the directions at this link: https://fermi.servicenowservices.com/kb_view.do?sysparm_article=KB0011206. Registration is completed during business hours and it can take up to a day to be completed with email confirmations to let the user know when different steps were performed.

Getting a CERN account

Up to date documentation to be found at the CMS Secretariat's page - follow "CMS Registration": CMS Newcomers: CMS Registration and Computing account

Getting a Personal Grid Certificate from CERN

A personal grid certificate from CERN can be obtained by following the instructions on this WorkBookStartingGrid twiki. Once one has a CERN account, a certificate can be obtained from https://ca.cern.ch/ca/. For a longer set of instructions, the twiki above should be sufficient, but we have duplicated some steps on the cmslpc getting a grid certificate web page.

Connecting to the LPC Analysis Cluster

Directions on how to setup, connect, and debug your connection to the LPC Analysis cluster can be found at this link.

Guidelines for LPC Analysis Cluster Users

General guidelines for the LPC Analysis Cluster Users can be found at this link, although more detailed information for certain topics (EOS, condor batch system) can be found in the LPC Analysis Cluster Computing Environment link.

LPC Analysis Cluster Computing Environment

More information about the LPC Analysis Cluster computing environment and technologies can be found at this link. Included is information about software setup, EOS, crab, and the condor batch system at the LPC.

System Status

Links to monitor LPC system status can be found here.

LPC Computing links

LPC Computing Quick links and resources for Getting Help at the LPC can be found at the external LPC Computing pages. Also take note of the different category links to the right and the left of these US CMS at Work web pages.
