USCMS Tier-1 Facilities Downtimes

Information on upcoming USCMS Tier-1 Facilities downtimes will be posted on this page, http://www.uscms.org/SoftwareComputing/UserComputing/Downtimes/UAF_downtimes.html and on the mailing list uscmst1-downtime@fnal.gov.

During this final phase before data taking, we are trying to limit our downtimes to once/month - generally a Thursday. Although large parts of the Tier-1 resources will may be down from 6 AM to 6 PM during these downtimes, we will try to have most items working by noon.

Thursday August 7, 6 AM to noon

We need to have a downtime tomorrow morning, Thursday August 7 from 6 AM to noon

    1. CMS network switches need their OS upgraded - this is needed to prevent crashes due to vulnerability scanning.
This work starts at 6 AM. There are 3 switches to be upgraded and they will be done in series. Total downtime
per switch is about 5 minutes. It is expected this will be completed by 6:30 AM

    2. We need to move equipment within our GCC-A computing building. This move involves 18 nodes:
    a) ALL CMS LPC Interactive nodes - we will try to do this in stages so the entire cluster isn't down at once.
    b) cmssrv45 - runs Production Phedex, FTS client - these services will be transferred to another node, so should be transparent to users
    c) cmssrv44,46,48,49= cms pa , local dbs and DAG cluster down

    3. More equipment moves are planned for next week.
