CMSSW Tutorials

We have planned more sessions of CMSSW tutorials:

Nov 09, 2006, 9 AM - 3 PM, run by Oliver Gutsche(gutsche@fnal.gov) (for a list of the students registered for this session, go to this link).

You must register in advance in order to participate!!! To register, send a mail Oliver. To participate in this tutorial, to be held in the LPC transient area, you will need a UAF account (http://www.uscms.org/SoftwareComputing/UserComputing/GetAccountFermilab.html) We prefer you use your own lap top, but there are a limited number of public terminals available. Contact the person running the session if you would like to reserve one of these.

Party!!!

July 11th, 2 PM, 11th floor x-over. Be there or be square!

CMS 101

Are you on the CMS mast head, but have not really been involved up until now? Want to learn some basics to help you get started on moving towards active participation in CMS? Maybe CMS 101 is the course for you! We will present what you need to know. We plan to offer this course approximately every 3 months.

Testbeams/MTCC for Dummies

A mini-school for graduate students and other interested people giving information about the history of CMS test beams, the Magnet Test/ Cosmic Challenge, prospects for the future, and how to get involved.

June 6, 2006, 1 PM

FNAL/CERN Summer School

will be run Aug 9-19. Go to this web page for more information.

J-Term at the LPC

Want to learn more about the physics potential of the LHC? Want to learn everything there is to know about the CMS detector? Want a detailed introduction to the new software framework, CMSSW? Come to J-Term at the LPC. The list of registered attendees can be found here.

Jan 10, 2006 Jan 11, 2006 Jan 12 2006. Jan 13, 2006

The theory session is on the afternoon of Jan 11. Chris Quigg has recommended reading for students attending this session

On the afternoon Jan 12, 2006, there will be a tutorial on CMSSW, run by Jeremy Mans. To participate in this tutorial, to be held in the LPC transient area, you will need a UAF account (http://www.uscms.org/SoftwareComputing/UserComputing/GetAccountFermilab.html) We prefer you use your own lap top, but there are a limited number of public terminals available. Contact Jeremy Mansif you would like to reserve one of these (jmmans@fnal.gov)

LPC Physics Group Workshop

The LPC physics group is having a workshop to inaugurate its activities on Oct 7. The agenda server page is here.

LPC CMSSW Workshops

These workshops are organized by Jeremy Mans (Minnesota). The tutorials will introduce the CMSSW software environment and include some simple analysis tasks including producing histograms from testbeam data in CMSSW as well as running the event display (Iguana) for testbeam and cosmic data.

Session 1 : Thursday October 13 from 9am -- 12 noon
Session 2 : Saturday October 15 from 3:30 pm -- 6:30 pm

Because of space restrictions, reservations are required: Jeremy needs firm committments to one time or the other towards the
end of September. Before the tutorial, you should have an FNAL id and a User Analysis Facility account.

LPC Cosmic Slice Test Participation Workshop

A workshop on Sept 9 to discuss LPC involvement in the slice test. The agenda server page is here.

CMS ORCA SOFTWARE TUTORIALS

Ready to start real work? Come to one of our "hands-on" software tutorials. We will offer this course as needed.

Workshop: LHC Physics: the First One-Two Years

The LPC is sponsoring a special mini-workshop on LHC Physics during the turn-on and first years of the experiment. The workshop is based on the article "LHC Physics: the First One-Two Years(s)..." by Fabiola Gianotti and Michelangelo Mangano (hep-ph/0504221). We will have presentations by one of the authors (Mangano) as well as Young Kee Kim (CDF Spokesman) and Jerry Blazey (D0 Spokesman), followed by a discussion period. We encourage all participants to read the article before coming to the talk. The mini-workshop will be help August 11th from 2 PM until 5 PM on
the 11th floor of the highrise in the "Sunrise" room (11NE). The agenda server page is here. Video conferencing will be available via VRVS.

KBOOK tutorial

KBOOK is an electronic logbook developed at FNAL. It will be used for the upcoming cosmic slice tests and test beams. It is also useful as a logbook for physics analysis. Shuichi Kunori will run a tutorial in the "Sunrise" room (11NE) at 3 PM on August 9th. Video conferencing will be available via VRVS. Agenda page is here.

Lecture: High PT Physics at Hadron Colliders

This course is full; we are not longer accepting any more people for in-person attendence. However, you can attend via vrvs (www.vrvs.org)

These lectures, by Fermilab scientist Dan Green, are intended for graduate students and postdocs. The lectures will be based on his book, "High PT Physics at Hadron Colliders", (Cambridge Monographs on Particle Physics, Nuclear Physics and Cosmology, click here ) and will introduce the student to topics such as the basics of the Standard Model, collider detectors, the Higgs boson, and supersymmetry, as well as giving them hands-on experience with a useful computational tool, COMPHEP. Students interested in learning more on the curriculum can look at * drafts of the presentation slides * at: http://uscms.fnal.gov/uscms/dgreen/Talks_LPC/ Students do not need to purchase a copy of the book to participate. All needed materials will be posted on the web. Students will, however, need access to a computer in order to complete the homework assignments. Materials needed for the lectures can be found at this link.

The lectures will be 1 hour long and will be held from July 25-29 and from Aug 1-5 (for a total of 10 lectures) from 3-4 PM on the 11th floor of the high rise in the "Sunrise" room. There is room for 40 students in the room. Please contact Sarah Eno (eno@physics.umd.edu) if you would like to enroll to attend this lecture series.

The lectures will also be broadcast on VRVS (you don't need to know the "room", just enter vrvs and look for "LPC Summer School Lecture Series").

French Lessons
